Blackjack is among the most popular casino games and one with the lowest house edge. If you want to play the blackjack game in India, you can do so in several online casinos. But you must understand the game well before you play it and plan to win. It is a game of strategy where luck plays a big role. Here are the basics of the game and its rules.
The aim of the game is to get the total of your cards as close as possible to 21 without going over. You essentially need to beat the dealer by getting a better hand. You have a better hand in the following three situations.
Drawing a hand that is greater than the dealer’s hand but less than 21
The dealer drawing a hand greater than 21
By drawing 21 in your first two cards when the dealer fails to do so
You lose the hand when:
The value of your hand becomes greater than 21
The dealer’s hand is greater in value but less than 21 at the end of the round
Valuation of a Hand
Cards 2-10 contribute their face value
All face cards contribute 10 points
An ace can contribute 1 or 11 points depending on what constitutes a better hand
Before the dealer deals the cards, the player is required to place a bet. The minimum and maximum bets can vary from one online casino to another.
The dealer deals one card to each player, face-up and then one for self, face-down. The same is followed for the 2nd card as well, but this card is face-up for the dealer as well.
The player has to plan his next move based on the cards on the table.
If a player gets a total of 21 with the opening hand, he is said to have a blackjack and wins 1.5 times his bet, provided that the dealer does not have a jackpot. In that case, he just gets his wagered chips back. The latter situation is known as a “push”.
Stand – If neither has a blackjack, the player can choose to stand, indicating that he will play with the current hand
Hit – Ask for another card to possibly improve your current position. You can continue to hit until you go bust or signal for a stand
Double Down – You place an equal wager again and ask for just one more card. This is normally done when you have a good hand but have scope for improvement.
Split – You can do this when you have two cards of equal value. In such a situation, you can double your wager and split one game into two. The dealer then proceeds to deal for both games.
Surrender – If you are not happy with your initial cards, you can surrender and claim half your bet back.
The Dealer’s Turn
If you are still in the game and stand, the dealer plays next by revealing his cards. If they have a total of 17 or more, the dealer must stand. For 16 or lower, additional hit cards need to be taken. Once the dealer and the player both ‘stand’, the winner is declared.
If you get a blackjack, you win 1.5 times your bet. If you win, you get the same as your wager as winnings, but if you lose, you do not get anything.
It is now time for the next round if you are willing to play. Else, you can move on to trying another interesting game in the casino
