dental implants requirements

Today, the most effective treatment of restorative dentistry is dental implants. It is one of the most suitable treatment suggested for a lost or missing tooth. Dental implants are a surgical process that replaces the damaged, broken or missed tooth with an artificial tooth. When a decayed or damaged tooth is extracted, it is pulled out from the root leaving a void behind in the jaw. An implant is placed in the vacant area of the tooth root to support the visible part, crown. The metal root is made up of titanium which is fused into the jaw bone to provide stability to the dental prosthesis, like a crown, dentures and bridges.

There is a various clinic in and around you, where oral surgeons provide the efficient surgical process of tooth replacement. However, not everyone can undergo dental implants as a solution for their missed tooth. You need to pass the preoral examination carried out by your dentist before providing implants. Read on to know some of the requirements for undergoing the implant procedure.

  • Jawbone density: It is important to have ample space in your jaw to get the implants rooted in the vacant area. It is instilled in the jaw bone to anchor the tooth, thus, you should have enough jawbone density to make the process a success. Well, if you do not have the required space, your dentist can still help you retain your smile by performing additional treatment of bone grafting. If you want to save on the additional procedure, you can wait for a couple of years to let your oral system mature for tooth replacement therapy.
  • No serious health hazards: If you are affected with any serious illness like cancer and diabetes, you won’t be suggested to avail implants for your lost tooth. For a diabetes patient, the healing process can be a troublesome experience due to their weak immunity. The body does not remain fit to fight attacking microorganisms or regenerate growth cells. You should be healthy and fit to undergo the surgical procedure of restorative dentistry.
  • No periodontal infection: The main focused treatment area is your jaw and an infected gumline or jawbone is not perfect for fixing implants. You should have a healthy jawbone to help the treatment proceed easily. If you are detected with gum disease or infection, it is recommended to wait for some time until you heal the oral problem.
  • You must not be suffering from bruxism: It is a medical condition of teeth grinding or jaw clenching. Several people have a habit of teeth grinding which does not have any serious symptoms. Still, it can affect the success ratio of the treatment. If you suffer from bruxism and want to get dental implants, first avail dental care for the oral issue.

Dental implants, if performed for a person with good oral and overall health, can show a high success rate. It is a permanent solution for a broken, damaged or missed tooth for a person who maintains good oral hygiene.
