Well, not really. Most of us have the misconception that fall marks the end of lawn care season. This laissez-faire attitude could be damaging your lawn, however.

What Do Amino Acids Do?

June 29, 2022

If you’re looking out for the health of your lawn, you should be maintaining things right up until the snow falls for good. We’re going to look at some fall lawn maintenance tips today, giving you a little insight into how you can make sure things are in order when spring rolls around.

Let’s take a look at some ideas for autumnal lawn care.

1. Change Watering Habits

Spring and summer require a healthy amount of water on a regular basis. Fall isn’t quite the same, however.

The temperature drops, so there’s a lot less evaporation of the rain that does fall. That means you could be over-watering if you keep up your summer schedule.

Just take a mental note of the amount of rainfall and try to accommodate, assuming that your lawn needs around an inch of water each week.

2. Clear Debris Often

A leaf pile here and there might look good when Halloween comes around, but it could be hurting your lawn. Grass benefits from these things breaking down and spreading their nutrients into the soil, but there’s a cutoff point.

When leaves and debris are covering grass, grass doesn’t get enough sunlight. So, make sure that you’re raking on a regular basis. You don’t need to clean every leaf, but you should do your best to make sure that everything in your lawn is still getting sunlight.

3. Aerate Again

Many of us aerate our lawns in the spring to ensure that the soil gets enough nutrients. This is a smart practice, but we often forget that aeration is beneficial in the fall as well.

We use our lawns regularly in the summer, stepping on them and putting a lot of pressure on them. This compresses the soil and makes it hard for nutrients to spread. Aeration gives soil a little help with the introduction of fall’s nutrients.

That makes the soil healthy for winter and ready to feed our plants in spring.

4. Use a Fall Lawn Maintenance Service

Lawn maintenance is hard if you don’t know what you’re doing. This is especially true during the end of the year.

A maintenance service can take that responsibility off of your hands for good. You’ll know that your lawn is in good hands, and it will probably look even better than it did before. Take a look at Heartlandturf.com to explore your options for great lawn services.

At the very least, you can learn from these professionals and take your newfound insights into every property that you move to in the future.
