1. Check In With HR
Once your new hire has accepted the position, you need to clear everything with human resources or HR. This means that they need to do a background check, drug test, or any other test your company requires. HR may be responsible for handling these issues.
Before you move ahead with other responsibilities, make sure their job is aligned with HR.
2. Paperwork
Before the employee can begin their work there are certain forms that need to be filled out. These include tax forms, contracts, agreements, and anything else your company requires. Filling out paperwork is tedious, but a necessary and important part of the job, especially if they want to get paid.
Gather all the paperwork your employees will need in one place so they can fill it out at the same time, saving them, and you, time.
3. Computer Work
Many companies have accounts for their employees for email or other purposes. An important part of their job will be to log into their accounts so they can use them. If so, when they’re on the job, help them log into their accounts and show them how to navigate it.
If they need to do training on the computer, show them how to use it, sign it, and get their training started.
4. Orientation
The employee’s orientation can be the same time they sign their paperwork, get their account log-in information, or learn more about the job. Orientation consists of learning more about the job, the company, and maybe different from other onboarding duties.
Leave time in orientation for questions the employees have. Orientation may have its own checklist so you know what you need to cover. Be sure to talk about things like where to find items, phone numbers, and more.
5. Workspace
Do your employees need help setting up their workspace? Do you need to give them a tour of the building or the floor? Show them where they will be working, how to set up their space if needed, and ensure they have all the right supplies and furniture.
If your employee is missing anything, be sure to make sure they have it and feel taken care of.
