Whether you’re visiting one of the nearby bars, music venues, or Maria Hernandez Park, you’ll undoubtedly want to try one of the outstanding restaurants in the Bushwick area.
While Williamsburg may be a culinary favourite, its little brother to the east, Bushwick, is no slouch either, offering excellent options for enjoying food and drink. This Brooklyn neighbourhood is home to some of New York’s best pizzerias, delectable BBQ restaurants, and world-class fine dining, including one of the city’s leading Ethiopian restaurants. These restaurants in Bushwick are perfect for a nice evening out, especially if you’re already looking for Bushwick apartments for rent to move to the area.
Bunna Cafe
This vegetarian-friendly Ethiopian restaurant offers a variety of traditional appetizers, including berbere-flavored red lentils, tomato-stewed peas, and chickpea and cabbage stuffing. Take the edge off the rich flavours with a slice of injera.
Win Son
The East Williamsburg restaurant, founded by Josh Koo and Trigg Brown, brings Taiwanese-American cuisine to the table, serving unpretentious bao, fried eggplant, and sticky tofu with pickled kumquat. If you want to get a quick overview of East Williamsburg, this spot will give you a taste of the creative vibe on this side of the bridge.
Roberta’s
This pioneer in the world of pizza is a haven for organic food lovers and a vibrant social hub, proving that chefs can craft pizza with the same care and creativity as fine dining. One of our favourites, the Bee Sting, has the perfect balance of tomatoes, mozzarella, caciocavallo, soppressata, chilli, basil, and aromatic honey. Expert tip: Grab an al fresco seat and order salads and charcuterie to complete your feast.
Mission Chinese Bushwick
Danny Bowen’s Chinese Bushwick Mission began on the ground floor of the famous music venue Elsewhere and quickly became a local favourite. It offers unique Chongqing chicken wings and kung pao pastrami, but mostly, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Mission Chinese’s revamped menu appears to be more in keeping with the neighbourhood’s youthful ethos: fun, approachable, and responsive to dietary restrictions (many items can be made into vegan versions).
Bunker
Sample an extensive platter of pho at this cosy Bushwick restaurant serving Vietnamese cuisine casually. With various chairs, a beach picnic vibe, and an energetic playlist, The Bunker gives the feel of a hidden house party (complete with a skate ramp) with great food. The menu includes meat broths, chicken, vegan noodle soups, rich banh mi (one of which features mushrooms growing on the tray), aromatic coconut curry, grilled meats, and seafood with lemongrass.
Queen of Falafel
Located next to the House of Yes, known for its theme parties, LGBTQ atmosphere, and amazing dancing all night long, this is a great place to enjoy falafel while you’re drunk. It is open 24 hours a day. The menu was designed by Rivka Orlin of Cafe Mogador. And what’s even better? 10% of all Queen of Falafel proceeds are donated to an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Ichira
Calling those who prefer to eat alone: Ramen chain Ichiran, which combats the social stigma associated with eating alone, is expanding its unique service to the American market with the opening of a branch in Bushwick, USA. The system includes customized “palate concentration booths” at their 60 locations in Asia and the US. The dining experience begins with filling out an order form, with the kitchen focusing on preparing the thin pork bone ramen. You can also specify preferences such as “flavor strength,” “noodle tenderness,” and “fat content.” You then sit in a private booth and request service by pressing a button on a personal stand.
Sally Roots
Indulge in Caribbean treats like cod cutlets, dry ribs, or braised oxtail with rice and peas while enjoying a cocktail like the Catch a Fire with Aperol and pineapple, the Sundowner with frozen guava, or the Dancehall with blueberries and rum. Additionally, Sally Roots boasts one of the best patios in Bushwick.
Ops
Despite the simplicity of this cosy eatery, its pizza slices, especially the Juno with broccoli and potatoes, are truly impressive. However, this is not only a great place for pizza but also one of the few pizzerias that offers great natural wines, which makes it special. Ops’ outstanding selection of hand-picked bottles hit patrons so much that the owners recently expanded their business by opening a wine store, Forêt Wines, in nearby Ridgewood.
