  • These Are Some of the Strongest Types of Flooring

For some, the pandemic revealed how much they dislike their jobs. For others, it was how much they hate their floors.

Flooring is one of those home improvement areas that are the hardest to change. Walls you can paint, furniture you can switch out, but floors are there for the long haul.

This is why you need to think carefully when weighing up types of flooring for your home. The flooring you choose should not only suit your design style and home, but it should also be made of a strong material.

Continue reading to discover the sturdiest types of flooring to consider for your home improvement project.

Tiles

If you want a strong material for your floors, tiles are the ultimate choice in terms of strength. Tiles hold up very well to years of wear and tear. The only way you can usually tell the age of tiles is if their design looks dated.

Porcelain tiles are considered the hardest tile types and are a great choice for heavy traffic areas that see a lot of moisture, such as bathrooms, hallways, and kitchens.

The only drawbacks to tiles are that they can be cold and hard, and you will need to reseal the grout lines.

Vinyl Planks

Vinyl planks are another durable flooring option that can last for years. Most vinyl planks mimic the look of real wood and are highly moisture resistant. They are also typically cheaper than real wood and can be more resilient against scratches.

Rigid core vinyl flooring is particularly hardwearing, and can easily stand up to things like dragged furniture and stiletto heels.

Vinyl planks are also easier and cheaper to install than tiles.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors are a classic favorite. Besides being one of the most popular types of flooring, hardwood is also very long-lasting and can stand up to a lot of traffic.

However, hardwood floors are susceptible to moisture damage, which makes them less suitable for areas like mud rooms and bathrooms.

On the upside, hardwood flooring is one of the few flooring types that can be refinished.

Hardwood is also warmer than tiles and more authentic than faux wood options like laminate and vinyl.

Polished Concrete

If you want indestructible floors, one of the strongest options to choose is polished concrete. Concrete floors are incredibly durable, and can easily last for well over 20 years while looking almost the same as the day they were installed.

If you don’t like the color of concrete, you can even opt to have concrete floors stained to a color of your choice.

As with tiles, one of the drawbacks to polished concrete floors is they can be cold and damp. However, you can combat this by installing the right subfloor. If you know the best subfloor and insulation materials to choose, you shouldn’t have any issues with your concrete floor.

These Are Some of the Strongest Types of Flooring

Replacing flooring isn’t a cheap home improvement project. It can also be very disruptive. Overall, replacing your flooring is not something you want to do every couple of years.

Therefore, it’s a savvy move to choose one of the strongest types of flooring from the get-go. All of the above are good flooring options that will stand the test of time.
