There are few things that are as painful as living alone after a serious relationship or marriage. No matter how devoted you both seem towards each other, life has a funny way of falling apart. In 2019, there were 49,510 divorces granted in Australia.  Living alone after a relationship can be a very painful task but luckily, there are a few things you can do to ease your mind and make you feel lighter. This list of wonderful tips on living alone might help you if you have fallen into a pit of sadness and loneliness.

  1. Have some “me” time

When you start living alone at first, you’ll feel scared and hopeless. But take this time to figure out what you want, and what will make you happy.

Try to acknowledge the feelings you have within yourself, irrespective of whether they’re positive or negative emotions. Do things that you like instead of wondering about doing things that you have done for your partner earlier.

For example, if you had given up a particular type of food because your partner didn’t like eating it or was allergic to it, you can cook that dish now. Put yourself first.

  1. Be practical

We understand that a breakup can be a very painful phase in a person’s life, but you also need to find your base with reality.

You have to concentrate on your work, take care of finances, think of properties and loans, or even think of children (if any). Try to keep past emotions at bay.

Realize that you both have to handle these practical responsibilities as adults now. If things are still rocky between you and your ex, try to seek some legal advice to make things easier.

You might want to jump right back into the dating game after a few days or weeks of living alone, but that’s honestly not a very good idea.

If your aim is to get back at your ex by dating someone else, you’ll only end up hurting yourself and your new partner for no reason at all. It might sound very tempting to ignite the sparks of romance with another person, but give yourself time.

A fruitful relationship requires patience and emotional availability which will take some time to grow. You have to be happy with yourself before you can feel happy with someone else.
